Entrecard : Touch & Go traffic and leave no comments

On my last posting 786 ways to market you blog, I received comment from Holly which really interest me.

"I love Entrecard, however, there are a few problems with the way people work it (as with mostly everything.) Entrecard definitely works for getting more hits, but the problem is that you're getting people that go to your site, drop their card and immediately click out trying to obtain this ridiculous amount of drops every day to get people to go back to their site. The main reason people use Entrecard is to attract an audience but they aren't going to do that if they don't respect the process it was set up for, comment on some blog posts, subscribe to a blog they may find interesting, etc. They need to stop fishing for the Entrecard widget and simply leaving after they've dropped their cards. Everyone wants a market, everyone has a voice that they want to be heard but by not giving it a little more oomph when you're doing your drops, such as leaving a comment or at least reading something on the site and spending more than 10 seconds on a site, they aren't going to attract the market they were hoping for, finding people who also use the system like them."

Entrecard is often at the top of every new bloggers list of things to try. The service is both criticized and praised by the blogosphere. Once you run Entrecard, you will have a good feel of what sort of traffic the widget can bring.

I agree that Entrecard has done quite a lot for the blogosphere, especially for new blogs like me. Blogs with less than 10 visitors per day are now having over a hundred visitors. That’s great!! But what happens when the widget is taken off?

The amount of traffic your site will receive will ultimately go down. Entrecarders will no longer see your card within their EC inbox. They will also not have the benefit of receiving a credit when visiting your site. This is because they believe members are visiting their website and not bothering to read any posts or leave comment and visiting only to drop. The spirit of blogging is rapidly diminishing. Most Bloggers in Entrecard only care about dropping and gaining credits for advertisement.

Although this may be the case for some, not all Entrecarders do this. The great thing however, is the visitors who found value out of your website will still return, especially if your content persuaded them to subscribe to your RSS. These visitors were most likely the highest quality (the ones who comment). So your blog won’t lose much in terms of quality. In fact, has been able to convert many Entrecarders into commenters and others into subscribers.

Entrecard has really increased my comment and subscribers. If I generate a blog friend for every thousand visitors… I am happy…. I like to blog… I don’t do it to make money…. EntreCard has introduced me to many blogs, like yours, that I like to read! I probably don’t comment enough.

Note : Congrats to my 22,786 winners Euroyank, Anisha, LJ, Emila & Random Ramblings . Who will be my lucky August top commentetor?

  1. I agree. Some Entrecard users didn't take time to read even just one entry of the blogs that they are visiting. I've also noticed that most of the blogs who have chatbox installed in the sidebar will be just flooded with "just dropping by" message coming from entrecard droppers. Geez...

  2. Yehaa! 5 winners including me! Thank you so much Bono!!

I noticed that about the EC too. When I do drop I read latest posts on blogs and make some effort to comment if the topic is interesting.

  3. Lol Bono, I think nobody can topple Mariuca when it comes to Top commentator! She is really a good commentator, she comments from the heart and she is a very good friend and listener!

  4. I agree, a lot of entrecarders just drop and leave. But not all of us do so. After all, I stopped to comment here *grins*

    ReplyDelete
  5. I will agree with you 100% most entrecard users do nothning more than drop, and go without even giving your site one minute of time.I always look over the first few post to see if there is anything that interest me,and if so I leave a comment.

  6. jeangrey, thanks for dropping by and the comment. Sometimes who drop and leave comment may times but no respond at all from the owner...but they still come and drop the entrecard.

  7. Good post and it does highlight a problem with Entrecard. But, here's the thing -- you're going to have abuse with any system like Entrecard.

I prefer to look at the benefits. I've run across a lot of blogs I might not have found before thanks to Entrecard and some visitors have found my blog the same way.

Sure, most users are of the "drop and run" variety, but I believe that isn't a permanent condition if you use the service smartly. My tactic is to drop to my inbox so I catch active users, hope for reciprocal drops and hope my content is interesting enough to inspire people to slow down and take a second look.

After a time, that method should create some long-term traffic. That's the plan, at least.

  8. Emila, MGP still the top and she really happy blogging. There is a movement require the bloggers to stop and read at least 10 second on every sites.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jodith, thanks for dropping by and the comment. I get many new friends from entrecard.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Steven, thanks for dropping by and the comment. Of cause I cannot read 300 blogs but at least spend some times for 10 - 20% of the blogs I visit.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hawg, thanks for stopping by and the comment. I always try to make friends with the regular dropper...and so far success. Entrecard is really good place to get new friends and surf new blog from all over the globe.

  12. i agree with you 100%. i'm actually one of those blogs which get less than 10 visitors a day before joining Entrecard. sure it helped me a lot, most of my traffic comes from there but i'm actually scared what will happen to me if ever i take it down. what if i get tired of it? will i still get visitors?

i've seen blog post telling everyone that they have to drop 300 ECs a day, it's part of their daily routine and i think its sad. i love Entrecard but most of their members don't bother to read the posts anymore. they'll just go to your site to drop their card so they can get more credits.

i'm a consistent dropper but i also make it a point to read the posts and comment when i find it interesting. i have to admit that i don't comment most of the time but that's only because i have nothing to say. i thought sezwho would be of big help with Entrecard but not for me. i still don't get comments on my site. or maybe i don't have interesting posts, that's why.

i've been talking non-stop, sorry. just want to voice out my concern :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. it is not problematic, is it. I want to join it

    ReplyDelete
  14. chorva, Thanks for voicing your idea. I'm also thinking what will happen if I take out the widget or at suddenly Entrecard stop the program. I'm trying my best to build up my social networking and seem improve day by day.

  15. When I go to any blog on EC, I will try to scan through the contents first. If I found nothing interesting, then I would just click drop and leave. However, once in a while I do find some good posts such as this one where I woudl stay and comment first and then drop and go.... Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Pekanbaru, thanks for dropping by. Not many Indonesian using entrecard ..the reason because entrecard is only accept English Blog..we should suggest to Entrecard to accept Multi Languages Blog.

    ReplyDelete
  17. shaxx, thanks for the good comment. I always try to spend more time on my regular dropper..just say hello to them and comment whenever they have interesting article.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There are too many blogs that are just doing reviews and ads and directories or memes... I can't comment much.

For my drops, I look for those with good content to leave a comment as well.

I reply to all comments or reciprocate all drops whenever possible.

    ReplyDelete
  19. eastcoaslife, thanks for the comment. This is another interesting topic to discuss. Once we already have the network, there are so many programs can be done organize tagging, meme, directories and others...but if we don't have the network how good is your content nobody will drop by..

    ReplyDelete
  20. WOW! Ramainye winners you! Congrats to all esp to LJ and Emila yeeha! 1000 credits tu he he! :):):)

  25. Great post, I get about 50 entrecard hits a day, my blog is new, but no comments. Its really annoying, because I also only put my card on sites that are similar to mine. I would think that those that I drop on would come and see my site, not just drop their card, but I guess that is not the case. Great post, though, hopefully this gets some others to start actually looking at other's sites. *shameless plug* Maybe you can start my checking mine out http://www.letsmakeeasymoney.blogspot.com */shamelessplug*

    ReplyDelete
  26. i do get a lot of extra traffic - and once a while they leave a comment....
But in all honesty; I also go through a lot of entrecards... look at the page.... lot of times I am also gone within 5 secs..... BUT I really am looking for interesting articles.... And in 99% of the times - I also do NOT leave a comment....

I am "surfing" via entrecard to READ interesting articles. not to just "leave a quick comment"....

(and yep - found this one interesting enough to leave a comments... ;) )

    ReplyDelete
  27. dropping a card on you since you dropped a card on me...i try to read the other as much as i can..if i like them, i bookmark them so i can go back again...have a great week..

    ReplyDelete
  28. The people who just drop and run may eventually stop and comment if they think your material is interesting and if they think they can contribute something. Without EC, they likely wouldn't know your site exists. EC will help you promote your site. From there, you have to have a site worth promoting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i just subscribed to your rss feed to my email..take care...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Since I've been using Entrecard, I'm getting tons of hits, but if people would stop and check out the blog once in a while that would be better. The things it does do for me? My subscibers are starting to go up a little, and I'm getting stumbled more.
I must admit, sometimes when I'm whipping my way through to get my 300 credits per day, I'm guilty of the same thing. But then I try to make up for it by commenting more when I have time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes Bono! Success does not come overnight, must always aspire to greater heights!

    Alamak JC...nggak mungkin gitu..susah! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. sjeltur, thanks for dropping by and great comment. Good content without method to promote will end up with failure. You are right, Entrecard is the method to make other bloggers knows our posting is good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. purple, thanks for the subscribe my feed ..I own you 50 EC pts. I already subscribe yours earlier. Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Absolutely! Bloggers will find your blog with entrecard. Most of them are not the audience you're looking for. But those that are, will stay around, comment, and become loyal readers. I drop 300 cards a day. I have a couple dozen blogs I read. But even when I drop cards, I'll scan the titles of the posts. If I'm interested or if something catches my eye, I'll read and comment.

Also, other bloggers who have never commented before might find a blog worth advertising on using Project Wonderful, for example--which is why I'm here today. Thanks for placing that ad, It is greatly appreciated, no matter how long your ad runs.

    cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  35. matthew, I think PW is another method for branding our site. Just imagine if people see everyday our widget 50 - 60 times from 300 drops...I'm sure some will wondering and start to click...but the location must be right. I prefer at the top.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks Bono! I dropped you another card from another blog...Mariuca probably will win the top commenter for the month of August or if Lady Java doesn`t beat her..She is moving up pretty quick too...

    ReplyDelete
  37. I've been an EC member for a month now and I will admit that I'm a drop and run type of person. When I'm short on time I will drop and run but when I do have extra time I will look through the blogs I visit and make it a point to comment. People have made some really good points about EC and the rise of drop and runs but even if you get just one person to read and comment then I think being a part of EC is worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I totally agree with you I try to make sure I leave a comment on a blog before I drop on it.If I am on a blog and don't find something interesting to read that I can comment on I don't drop on it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. EC is great! it's one of the way to stumble upon great blogs! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jean, I totally agree with you ..thanks for drop by.

    ReplyDelete
  41. imitationangel, thanks for dropping by and your great comment. We don't have enough time to read all 300 blogs. I always focus to my regular dropper then welcome to my 1st timer dropper.

    ReplyDelete
  42. lapa37, thanks for dropping by and your great comment.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wah Matt oso got PW now! Here to drop my EC today Bono! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Marzie, I just realize PW is also good place for branding our site.

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is definitely a strong point. Many rarely do take time to see what's going on inside a blog to leave a comment. It's sad but I guess am glad that someone like you has actually taken the time to make a lot of us aware of this on going issue. More power.

    ReplyDelete
  46. empty streets, thanks for dropping by and great comment. All my visitors and the comments is inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Your doing great. Am a new blogger as well and not someone that does it full time. :) heheh I learn a lot from bloggers such as yourself and people like Marzie, LJ, Emila and all the others on my list of blog friends. To think we get to share and commuincate with ideas and fun thoughts across continents through mediums such as these is simply amazing :) Keep it up Bono :) like I said earlier your doing great as it is :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Firstly, we must understand that EC is a tool for bloggers to drive traffic. It means we can visit one each others. The reason someone to stop and reading a blog is the content. So, whenever I met a good content I read the blog and made some comment. The main benefit I get from EC is my Alexa Ranking raised spectacularly since I joined EC.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Articles like this make me stop and read blogs.

When i drop, I look for value. One of the most important things for each blogger - is a title of the post.

First impression about person happens in first 7 seconds...
let's assume the same happens to me... If you are impressed then you make it your favourite blog, bookmark or subscribe to it as I did now.

Subscribed to this blog and waiting for more good posts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just joining the chorus here. Entrecard is a good thing in my opinion. The majority of my hits are 0-second wonders, but those who stay and read and sit on my page(s) for more than 1 minute has definitely increased since dancin the Entrecard 300-step. And comments left on my blog has increased dramatically.

I drop and run on quite a few, but each blog that I hit gets a serious perusal eventually, if not on that particular day. And of course, I leave comments if so moved.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If the post merits it, I leave a comment. If I strike a blog with pay-per-post though, I'm a drop-and-go-er (especially when I run into the same product/ppp on several blogs in one sitting)

Thanks for the post, I see it has generated lots of comments for you!

    xx
    Anita

  63. I like to spend sometimes to read, mostly I will make a comment relevant post.
some of them will then visit my site. Though comments, we give out our ideas and it gives both blogger joyful.
Nice post, have a nice day.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Personally, I think dropping a a lot of EC cards every day just to gain credits to advertise is a waste of time. I don't really think too many entrecards even click on the advertised ECs on a blog. Most I hear of drop from their inbox or from their favorites list anyhow. I admit, if I see an interesting looking EC card on someone's blog that catches my eye, I'll click on it 60% of the time.

I for one would rather have quality traffic (actual readers) to my blog than quantity made up of drop-n-goers.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I starting using EC widget for like a week, so far I read almost all the blog that I visited and I did comment to some of it, not all though only those that interest me :P

I do wish with EC, people will come to my blog and read, not just click and then leave. My main purposes is to gain more friends :D

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love Entrecard and I drop in several different ways and if a post catches my eye then I read other wise I simply drop and leave. If a post is too long I simply glance at certain parts and if I'm not distracted by 50 million ads I may look for something else to read. I comment on some blogs, but definitely not all especially if I have to join in order to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  67. This is a thought provoking post. The drop and run phenomenon among droppers is a very sad thing to note. Although I may not be entirely guilty of this (since I always take time to read and comment on posts of my interest despite dropping 900 cards/daily and without fail), but I agree on the Natural State Hawg's comment.

AS we have been encouraging our visitors to comment, (i believe it's one of our responsibilities as bloggers), I think it's our responsibility as well to come up with interesting articles that readers may want to take part.

Entrecard did wonders for my blog giving me more than 300 visits a day. But more than the hits, I came across great blogs and made friends with these beautiful people. I couldn't have done all these if not for EC. I make the most of everything and use it to my advantage and not to abuse it as some people tend to do.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi Bono,

Agreed with the EC members and we on our part should encourage them to comment or at least read thru' by writing an interesting post. Some EC members just do not bother...what they need is drop and hope people will visit them. Let it be...in this world we only could encourage and educate, we simply could not force them.

    Happy blogging, Bono.

    ReplyDelete
  69. scotty's princess, thanks for dropping by and great comment. I totally agree with you. EC already help us to meet many wonderful friends like you.

  71. @ BONORIAU:

    Pleasure is all mine, Bono.

Hmm, about PPP posties, I hate to admit it but I am one of those you've mentioned- PPP members don't care much if their articles were read or not because we're paid for it.

It's kind of hard to blog for money but it's a lot harder to blog for both money and passion. I always try my very best to come up with paid reviews that I can relate with my own experiences and even if I'm being paid for it, I hope some readers may still find it interesting. Of course, we would want to engage our readers and take part in every article we take the effort of writing.

It's a little hard to come up with quality posts because of deadlines to beat.

But at any rate, I enjoy blogging because it's a passion and at the same time blogging for a fee comes only as a BONUS.

  72. I have to agree, this is one of the most frustrating things about Entrecard. Luckily, there have been some who have left me comments and even- dare I say it- enjoyed my blog. For this, I am grateful!

    ReplyDelete
  73. If a blog is good, I usually subscribe to it by email if possible, as I've got an address set up for email subscriptions as opposed to correspondence, which I check daily. Then if I really enjoyed a post, I can click on the email link and read some more. I have found some really good blogs in the time I have been on Entrecard (only a fortnight). I would add them to my Google Reader, but it's quite full.

    ReplyDelete
  74. yolander, thanks for dropping by and the comment. I'm also grateful when friends reply back and link back.

  76. I'm gradually finding blogs that I'm interested in as I do the Entrecard drop thing...and those I comment on...

On the other hand, an awful lot of the blogs I drop on when I'm following cards haven't been updated when I started... or just don't have much of anything of interest other than ads ... those I drop and go

  77. pak bono,

maaf yer, agak sibuk sampai 2-3 hari ni sampai tak sempat, nak check internet, nak buat komen dan drop entrecard.. hehe.. ni rizal punyer ranking musti udah jatuh..tak per..

as most people have mentioned here. i agree. EC does help new blog to gain traffic. As those who drop and run, what can i say..? I normally would drop and scroll down to three posts if i find the first post interesting, or catchy at least. Found some good ones too. I dont simply drop and run, but i ll try to leave comments if i can. or i leave comments the day after on my next "drop, stop, read and go.."

I ve subscribed to few blogs though i have never commented on them. :)

    happy friday

  78. Great post. This is my first visit here so I haven't stalked you or dropped randomly in the past. LOL. I drop both ways: sometimes I have time to read and hangout and there are definitely other times when I just drop. Hopefully, through it all, we are all getting what we want and need from blogging. I'm like you: I love to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Petula, thanks for dropping by. Entrecard can be a method to build our blog networking.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with what you are saying, but, I also think that bloggers have to take some responsibility by, making their blogs interesting and 2) posting often - If a headline doesn't catch my attention I probably won't stop and read.

  81. Bono, ur comments pun semakin byk! Good for u!

  88. I have noticed that I get a ton of traffic from entrecard but no comments or anything. I try to comment on most blogs I visit when dropping. It's just polite. I think so many of these people think "traffic" and not about networking

    ReplyDelete
  89. Of course Marzie :) I found bono through you too :) hehe If push comes to shove you'd probably be one of the best referrer in the asian blogging market :) smile smile. :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. 100% right. it doesn't hurt if you would read some of the articles on sites that you would drop by. also, its better than just clicking away. there are informative sites out there.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Sometimes I'll look at the most top title while clicking on the "Drop" button. If it's interesting, I usually have a read and make comments afterwards.

    Like this one. lol

    ReplyDelete
  92. Quite similar to some StumbleUpon traffic, except more selfish ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  93. My first "subscriber" ever was an EC dropper. My content is very niche so I don't expect people to subscribe (bookmark, occasionally, maybe) and the number of comments I've received has risen too. But, the best part is finding new blogs! I've found some great ones since joining EC.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Good article.

I can be a chain dropper at times, and read at others. Some blogs may be great but just do not interest me, nothing personal. Like car blogs, ewww, a car to me gets me from A to B, so could care less.

My blog is about bodybuilding, and I can assume 99.9% of people do not care less, I do not take it personal, it's not most people's thing.

  95. Jamie I just start to bookmark, subscribe feed and follow the twitter. Hope this will improve my site.

  98. I'm one of those people that only comment rarely but that's only because I generally don't have anything to say. However, I have subscribed to a lot of the blogs I've found through Entrecard.

  99. yes you right I have website with traffic less than 20 per day. But since I become entrecard member this website own traffic until more than 50 per day.

  100. @Diana thank you for dropping by. I just start to subscribe and follow the social network offer at the site. Hope this will improve my appearance in blogsphere

  101. I always read at least one post on every entrecard side I drop on, but most often, I now have a link of like 30-40 blogs that I look at daily that I found just by campaigning through entrecard. It is easier to find blogs through entrecard than through socialspark, in the categories you are looking for. But since getting entrecard my Google "Bounce Rate" has gone from 72% to 85% which clearly means many more people drop and leave, no clicks, no comments...
That being said, RealRank and Alexa rank are based on unique visits, not comments, so there is still some benefit to increasing your pagerank even with it not working as it should.

  102. hello there .. indeed it has helped me find more blogs.. and there are lots of interesting ones. i do not understand fully how entrecard works but i am enjoying the fact that it is easy to find blogs

  103. Part of my problem with Entrecard is I tend to LIKE to read the blogs. I don't drop as many cards in a day because I tend to read and comment on the posts.

  104. I guess if you think about it...this is not so much of a "problem" persay. It's just that it slows me down. :)

  105. Although I will say I do not leave comments on gaming sites, or technical blogs because they are WAY OVER MY HEAD.

  106. i used entrecard to find a good blog, the one that i'm interested in. if i found a blog that gives nothing, i just drop and run. if i found the good one, i will read, may be leave a comment or two, and even make contact with the author.
